Does leading a healthy lifestyle have an impact on your sex life?

With Valentine’s Day coming up, I’m sure many of you have something special planned – and that may even include certain plans for the bedroom.

So what if there were ways to make this sensual experience even more enjoyable? Simple lifestyle changes that could increase your satisfaction, without the help of any little pills?

In this blog we’re delving into everything health and sex, doing the research so you can spend more time focusing on your partner, and those special tricks you’ve been practising with your tongue.

A little disclaimer before we start: we’re not being shy here, so please don’t read any further if you aren’t over 18.

STEP ONE: EXERCISE

We may as well start with the fairly obvious point: exercise and fitness can have a major impact on your sex life.
First of all, working out, especially cardio, is great for your blood circulation. Think any kind of aerobic exercise, whether that’s jogging, dancing your little booty off or cycling. They all improve your circulation - a major factor in awakening your sexual core.
This is especially true for men, as good blood flow decreases the chance of erectile dysfunction. Then there’s the fact that exercise helps you to build up your strength, stamina and flexibility. This is great if you’re tired of the same old thing in the bedroom (missionary is so 2001) and looking to mix things up a bit with some karma sutra magic.
Exercise is also a great stress-reliever. No one feels like getting down and dirty if they’ve got a long list of other things on their mind. Working out can help you calm down so you’re ready to dive right into those sweet sensual seas, baby. Not to mention that a little bit of physical activity every now again can boost your confidence and leave you feeling sexier when the time comes to bare your bootylicious bod.

STEP TWO: NATURE’S MEDICINE CABINET

Purchase our Libido Luminance Tincture [HERE]!

There’s nothing wrong with needing a little extra BOOST every now and again. Where supplements are concerned, we prefer to stick with natural options, harnessing the magic in herbs, roots, seeds, spices and mushrooms.

However, many of these chemicals and compounds are hard for our bodies to break down and assimilate, so we advise using tinctures. This is a concentrated extract of herbs and other natural compounds - a great way to ingest natural medicines.

At Nourish’d, we have a range of tinctures made using a dual hydro-ethanol extraction method. This extracts almost every trace element from the plant material and delivers maximum potency.

If you’re looking for a natural way to elevate your sex life, our Libido Luminance tincture is your go-to potion! It supports both womxn’s and men’s sexual health and drive - uplifting the mood, promoting blood flow, stimulating libido and increasing endurance and energy. With just 10 drops three times daily, this little bottle of instant-orgasms will have you wet before you know it.

The tincture is a concentrated combination of Shatavari, Cacao, Maca, Entengo and Eleuthero. Let’s  penetrate a little deeper into each ingredient.

Shatavari is a member of the asparagus family and an adaptogenic herb, meaning it helps the body cope with stress. It has been used for centuries in Ayurveda, one of the world’s oldest whole-body healing systems originating in India. Translating to “women with a thousand husbands”, it is a popular women’s tonic and womb medicine, supporting reproductive health. As it is rich in phytoestrogens, it is also effective in stimulating women’s libido. And it improves blood flow to the clitoris for an extra-zesty orgasm.

Cacao:  As if chocolate (cacao) wasn’t already tantalising enough, it’s also a great natural aphrodisiac. Cacao enhances the mood and uplifts energy levels - both important for fiery, passionate sex. It also improves cardiovascular health and the circulation of blood, helping you to keep it hard for longer.

Maca: You’re probably already adding it to your smoothies because you know it’s super high in nutrients, vitamins and minerals. But did you know that Maca also increases libido and stamina? It also really helps out during your monthly menses (period), relieving symptoms associated with PMS such as mood swings and sleep problems.

Entego (Mondia whitei): Entego is a medicinal plant from Africa, and the root is used to treat a number of ailments. In particular, it is known to reduce the occurrence of erectile dysfunction and aids those with anorgasmia. So it’s a powerful medicine to try if you’ve been experiencing a few problems down there and you’re keen to enlist the help of a plant ally before trying anything else. Entego is also a natural stamina enhancer and libido booster - so it’s really a great supplement for everybody.

Eleuthero supports the immune system, keeping you healthy, happy and ready for sex. In addition, it boosts energy levels and improves circulation, making your sexy time in the bedroom that much more enjoyable when it happens.

We’d love for you to try out our Libido Luminance tincture ahead of Valentine’s Day and we’re welcoming all feedback - we’re sure it’ll do wonders for you as it does for us!

STEP THREE: STOP SMOKING & DRINKING

Now let’s talk bad habits. Smoking and/or drinking may be how you prefer to unwind, but overdoing it can have a negative impact on your sexual performance. Both of these habits are actually common causes of erectile dysfunction (ED), affecting the amount of blood flow to the cockadoodledoo.

Alcohol also has a numbing effect. This is because it interferes with signals from the brain, preventing us from being able to feel sexual stimulation properly. So, those pre-drinks may actually be interfering with your ability to orgasm, and no one wants that, right?

Because alcohol is a depressant, it is often the culprit behind a dampened mood and decreased sexual desire, so next time we’d recommend sticking to one or two drinks, or trying something else instead (KOMBUCHA YAAS).

Healthy sleeping habits also have a role to play. And these, in turn, are often affected by alcohol, tobacco and caffeine. Sleep deprivation, or a circadian rhythm that is thrown out of alignment, can lead to disrupted bodily processes and a reduction in arousal. Therefore, it’s super important to stick to a good sleep schedule and to get enough rest each night – you want to optimise your energy levels to increase your opportunities for pleasure.

STEP FOUR: EAT THE RAINBOW

What about food? We’ve all heard stories about pineapple juice making man-mylk taste better (it’s okay if you icked at that). But is this true, and are there benefits to eating other foods?

Oysters are a well-known aphrodisiac in popular culture, but as a plant-based company, that’s not one we’re going to focus on.

If you’re vegan or vegetarian, it’s important to be eating a balanced diet with an adequate amount of protein. Zinc is important for blood flow and can play an important role in sexual response. While meat is a good source of zinc, it’s also possible to get plenty from whole grains. Nuts and seeds are also great, providing zinc, L-arginine and omega-3 fatty acids, all of which promote heart health.

And don’t forget your fruits and veggies! The antioxidants and vitamins they provide are important for overall health and therefore also your sex life. They may also make you taste a little bit more delicious down there - so there’s no harm in sneaking a few extra greens into your diet. While a pineapple certainly isn’t going to change the taste of your baby batter or hooch juice overnight, eating a diet higher in sugar could make bodily fluids slightly sweeter over time. Just try and stick to natural sugars as much as possible!

And while on the topic of taste – it’s also important to stay hydrated and consume a healthy amount of water. Semen is alkaline, so it can sometimes taste quite bitter. Therefore, it is often the case that "nut butter" tastes milder and better in men who eat healthily and remain hydrated.

STEP FIVE: HORMONAL BALANCE

Your health also plays a role in things like odour, pheromones and hormones. The more you look after yourself and keep your organs running smoothly, the less likely you are to develop disease, which is usually what is responsible for the body not smelling quite right.

We all know smell can play a big role in our levels of attraction, so it’s likely that the healthier your body is, the better you’re going to smell to other people. Of course, pheromones are also at play in sexual attraction, but these are largely driven by genetics.

However, it is very likely that a person’s health, affected by environmental factors like diet and exercise, influences their ability to actually synthesise these chemical signals and thus attract a partner - it’s your own natural perfume bb.

Plenty of studies have investigated the impact of activity and food on our hormone levels but many of these remain inconclusive, so we’ll just give you one example as somefood for thought– but feel free to do your own reading and experimenting.

Once again, pineapples seem to be the star of the show. Apparently, bromelain, which is the enzyme they possess, promotes the production of testosterone and therefore affects male sex drive. You’ll just have to try it out for yourself ;)

Hopefully, this has convinced you that a thriving sex life is a good enough reason to try to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Whether you decide to eat more pineapple or try a run every now and again, your body, and bae ;), will surely thank you for it. It’s never too late to kick your health into gear...and we can help you out with that! Try our libido-boosting couples cleanse programme and ensure you have the best Valentine’s Day possible.
