How do we truly know what is good for us? With so many different diets and strict regimes we can easily get caught in restrictive, limiting ways of eating that don’t actually serve our unique constitutions. In an effort to move towards a more holistic and individualised way of nourishing, Nourish’d have partnered with Maria Praeg from the healing root to delve deeply into the energy of food, through the paradigms of Ayurveda and Macrobiotics.
Everything in life has a subtle energy. An energy that underlies the physical aspects of that object/being. Everything from the activities we partake in, the thoughts we think, and especially the foods we eat have a subtle energy. These subtle energies all have a much more powerful effect on our innermost self than we realise.
By working consciously with these energies we are able to make informed decisions that allow us to restore, maintain or increase our health and balance from the subtlest levels to the most physical of levels. In a world where we have a predominance of an external focus – to the detriment of the intricate inner world that precedes and underlies all that is physical – this information is vital to empower us as active agents in our lives.
A practical example of this is the healing practise of YOGA, where we move from the physical plane (yoga asanas) to the subtler plane (that deep internal space of connection to our innermost energetic constellation: the energy that precedes and informs our physical manifestation). As such, this talk is essentially the YOGA OF FOOD.
This information is essentially taking yoga off the mat and into our food practices where we move beyond the focus on the physical macro components of food (carbohydrates, fat, proteins, vitamins + minerals) and begin exploring this subtle energy of food,activities, lifestyle choices and more through the knowledge and wisdom of Macrobiotics and Ayurveda. Two ancient healing systems that offer to awake within us our own self-healing capacity through deepening and making conscious our energetic engagement and understanding of life.

What is Macrobiotics?
What is Ayurveda: the elements, the doshas, the gunas, the qualities of different foods and the power of this system as a healing framework through which you can heal your mind-body and live a life of harmony and inner peace according to your own unique blueprint of health
What is balance and health from an Ayurvedic + Macrobiotic perspective (providing a very idiosyncratic and bio-individual working definition of both as they pertain to us as completely unique individuals)
What, how and WHY different foods effect our mind-body in different ways by understanding the innate energetic qualities of certain foods + food groups.
The energetic properties of different cooking methods and how these in turn affect your food and your mind-body, the food-mood connection
Eating seasonally and the importance thereof for physical and energetic harmony/balance/health
Eating to support your unique constitution
How to use the principles of the energy of food to move away from diet culture and dogmatic understandings of health and balance
The different energetic qualities within LIFE and how to use these ancient healing systems to understand the places in your life where you are perpetuating imbalances, how to restore that balance through energetically corrective lifestyle choices that extend beyond the plate
Intentional eating: how the energy we bring to our plates or cooking/eating experiences creates an energetic transferal and impacts both your subtle energy body and that of the food and how this in turn effects the bodies’ receptivity to that food and consequently, how we are able to digest and assimilate the food and its’ nutrients
Healing food practices (like mindful eating) to heal your relationship to food and oneself

About the Speaker:
Maria Praeg is a yoga teacher, energy healer, qualified Whole Foods Healing Chef with specializations in Macrobiotics, Ayurveda and Raw and Living Foods. She has co-hosted and worked at various retreats, given international talks on the Energy of Food and is currently finishing her studies in Human Kinetics and Ergonomics and Psychology.
