With enamel plates, coconut-shell bowls, glass straws, compostable takeaway containers, wooden cutlery and glass bottles, Nourish’d manage to send out absolutely zero plastic from our kitchen. We also sell a host of zero-waste reusables like Eco Coffee Cups and bamboo straws and offer customers R5 off every coffee when they bring their own takeaway cup. Our oceans are dying, say no to plastic.
As part of our say no to plastic initiative, we serve all of our smoothies and juices in glass jars, which can get pretty pricey. So, we charge a R10 deposit on all take-away jars, which can be converted into a R10 in-store credit on your unique Eco-Currency card when you bring them back.
Nourish’d is a primarily plant-based café serving absolutely zero meat and reserving a small amount of organic grass-fed dairy for those who absolutely refuse to try almond mylk (weird…). Numerous studies have revealed the devastating effects of animal agriculture on our earth and we're determined to change that.
We make a huge effort to source all of our produce from in and around Cape Town. The vast majority of our fresh fruit and veg comes from the Philippi Horticultural Area, apart from a couple of things like mangos and pineapples that travel from a little further up the coast. By changing our menu to suit the seasonal availability of foods we eliminate the huge amount of CO2 it takes to import unseasonal items.
By ordering daily deliveries of fresh bread, fruit and veggies we make sure that nothing goes to waste because we order only what we need and the food is tastier too!
As you might guess, we produce a large amount of peels and pulp from all of our juices and smoothies. But don’t fret, this nutrient-dense nourishment goes straight back into the soil. By sending all of our organic waste to Y-Waste we ensure that every little piece of food goes to good use, either feeding you, or the earth on which you walk.
Once we’ve sourced local produce, shopped at zero-waste stores and eliminated plastic as much as possible we are left with a small quantity of waste that we joyfully recycle. We use a company called RecycleFirst that does door-to-door recycling collection for as little as R80 per pick-up.
